Make it clear what jurisdiction Spindle is for. US Federal? State? French? Iraqui? You don't say!
Pretty obvious, this one. I'm from the UK, stumbled across Spindle, and had to log in and create an account to find out it's based on US law. But that's as much of an issue for US lawyers working out whether it's dealing with federal or state law, or trying to work out what the law is in a particular state. At the most basic, somewhere in the 'about spindle' section, you should be explicit about which jurisdictions Spindle is intended to cover. Even better, you should add some kind of clever filtering system allowing people to switch between federal… more

Good point. We’ll make it clearer that we so far cover only US law. As to jurisdictional distinctions, it’s actually a feature of our system that for areas of law in which multiple jurisdictions have roughly similar sets of rules (structural similarity being the main criterion), as is the case for many areas of US federal & state law, we mix jurisdictions at the level of topics and rules and distinguish them at the level of authorities. I’ll try to post something on our blog to explain that more fully. Here let me say that if you would be interested in helping us get something started in UK law, please do contact us. Either way, thanks for the suggestion.

Not sure why the tree list is so limited? I wanted to research a real estate/real property question
I was researching a real estate issue and there is nothing. I was surprised to find so few subject areas. Why not list subject areas. There are several sources of subject labels, TJ3rd contents being one. Seems like Spindle will not grow if we access and find such a short list.

Divide and label court-sorted case authorities
Especially among the district court cases, which are to be sorted by the circuits they are within, it would be helpful to see where the first circuit district court authorities end and those from within the second circuit begin, etc.

Show all of a case's authority comments
Sometimes one might want to look at all of the comments made on a case (or other source) at once, including not only those that the commenter identified as pertaining to the case as a whole (case comments) but also those that were identified as applying only to a particular rule of law (authority comments). One possible implementation would be a button or link on the case comments page for the case that would show all authority comments, together with the rules they go with.

Make it more obvious in tree when a topic is empty
For various reasons the tree has topics for areas of law that the site doesn't actually cover yet. When you click one of those topics, you go to a page that's useless to researchers who don't plan to contribute to it. If you're such a researcher and are familiar with the site, you can tell by the lack of a + next to it that it's empty, but that's too subtle a sign. The whole topic should be grayed out or something.

Search for terms in non-case authorities
Right now you can search for terms in topic/rules/references and in case law authorities. You should also be able to search for terms in authorities that are based on statutes, regulations, rules of evidence & procedure, and all the other types of authorities that the site will support.
